The test is simple: you single-click a large target at a normal pace, and the tool records the time between each consecutive press. How the Test Works

Every time you press the left button, the tool captures the native mousedown event and timestamps it with a high-resolution clock. It then subtracts the previous timestamp to get the interval between presses. Any interval below 70ms is flagged red as a suspected unintended double-click.

Why 70ms? Even competitive clickers in butterfly-clicking challenges struggle to exceed roughly 15 clicks per second, which still leaves gaps well above 60ms. A genuine, deliberate click-release-click cycle almost never lands under 70ms. So when intervals of 5ms, 25ms, or 50ms appear without you trying, your finger did not cause them — the switch did.

Reading Your Results

Troubleshooting Tips

Before you condemn the mouse, rule out a few false positives:

  • Click at a natural pace. Frantic machine-gun clicking can produce legitimately short gaps that the test may flag. Click as you normally would in everyday use.
  • Use the left button only. The test ignores right and middle clicks because chatter almost always affects the primary switch.
  • Try a different USB port or cable. Intermittent connections can mimic chatter; a wired mouse on a known-good port isolates the switch itself.
  • Re-test after cleaning. A blast of compressed air or a drop of contact cleaner can sometimes revive a borderline switch. Run the test before and after to see if the flag count drops.
